Lakonia - Peloponnese, Greece
Hotel, Accommodation and Travel Bookings
Bordering with the counties of Arcadia and Messinia, Lakonia is the southern most region of the Peloponnese. It is here in Lakonia that the famous towns of Sparta and Mystras are located.
Sparta is probably the most famous town in Lakonia due to it's historic background. Today however, the town resembles little of the super power that it once was during the 6th to 4th centuries BC when, along with Athens, was one of the most important towns in all of Greece.
Mystras, located to the south-west of Sparta, is another town that hold great historic interest. The castles and palaces spread out throughout Mystras create an almost dreamlike setting, and one that appears to have been frozen in time.
Situated in the southern area of Lakonia is the famous holiday destination of Mani. Here you will find some truly spectacular beaches, where the crystal blue waters lap up gently against the soft sandy beaches.
Visitors to Lakonia can enjoy relaxing excursions along the coast, stopping by at some of the beautiful and traditional towns such as Kakkala and Yerolimenas.
Lakonia is a very popular holiday and vacation destination for a huge number of visitors to the Peloponnese. It is an area that offers so much, and one that visitors find themselves returning to, year after year.
