The delightful island of Thassos is the northern most island in the North East Aegean. It is actually part of the county of Eastern Macedonia in North Greece, and is just 16 nautical miles from the town of Kavala.

Thassos has a very rich history, and during excavations, it was discovered that the island was inhabited by people from Thrace during the Neolithis period.
Close to the port of Thassos is a very interesting archaeological site with an ancient theatre that dates back to the 3rd century B.C.
The capital town of the island is also called Thassos, and it was built on the top of a hill on the ground where the ancient town was located. The town is very charming and picturesque, and ideal for exploring.
As well as the main town, there are also some other beautiful villages that are well worth visiting, such as Theologos, Potamia and Panagia.
Around Thassos are some wonderful beaches, perfect for relaxation and swimming in the summer months. Visitors to Thassos can also enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets in the North Aegean.
